WhatsApp ordering for restaurants and cafés in Doha: a practical guide

LamsaQR · · 4 min read

Why WhatsApp?

In Qatar many customers would rather order by message than by phone call or app, especially for pickup and family orders. WhatsApp takes no commission, the customer already knows it, and the chat history stays as a record for both sides. A QR menu plus a WhatsApp button is the simplest ordering system you can build today.

The prefilled message makes the difference

A good button does not open an empty chat; it opens one with a message already written: "Hi, I'd like to order from Doha Grill House". That removes hesitation and gives your staff instant context. In LamsaQR you write that message in both languages and it appears in the guest's language.

Organise replies before you launch the button

  1. A dedicated business number on WhatsApp Business, not the manager's personal phone.
  2. Quick replies ready: order confirmation, preparation time, payment methods.
  3. An away message outside opening hours with the menu link.
  4. One person per shift responsible for the phone; an order answered after ten minutes is usually lost.

What to put on the menu itself

  • An "Order on WhatsApp" button at the top of the page, before the menu.
  • Fulfilment options: dine-in, pickup, delivery.
  • Talabat and Snoonu links for people who prefer them, so you do not lose those customers.
  • Accepted payment methods: cash, card, Apple Pay.

Measure what happens

Every tap on the WhatsApp button is counted in the analytics. Many views and few taps point to prices, photos or button placement. Many taps and few orders point to reply speed.

WhatsApp or delivery apps?

It is not a contest. Apps bring new customers for a commission; WhatsApp keeps regulars with none. Put both on your page and let the customer choose. See how it looks on the live example.
